Manage TOU Parameter Sets

The Five-Minute Model Forecast Framework consists of managing historical data, combining forecast results from three (3) models, and adjusting the forecast with post-model algorithms. Historic data are managed using filtering methods (Data Filtering Method). Combining forecast results require blending parameters, and the post-model adjustments require additional settings. These methods, parameters, and settings may be changed based on the time-of-day. The TOU Parameter Set defines these parameters and their applicable time segments.

The TOU Parameter Tab displays the list of defined TOU parameters. The list shows the following two fields.

  • TOU Param ID. This field is the TOU Parameter identified.
  • Description. This field is the TOU Parameter description.

To add a TOU Parameter Set, selected the Add button on the toolbar. This action inserts a new TOU Param ID into the list. Edit the TOU Param ID and description. Changes are saved by selecting the OK or Apply buttons. The Cancel button closes the dialog without saving. TOU Parameter sets may be deleted using the Delete button on the toolbar.

Each TOU Parameter Set requires Contributors. Select the Insert Contributor button on the toolbar to add a contributor. The Contributor list shows the assigned contributors to the TOU Parameter Set. The following settings should be configured for each Contributor.

  • TOU ParamID (Day of Week). This field defines the applicable day for the parameter setting. The selections include All, each day of the week, and Holiday. The All definition will apply the TOU parameters to each day of the week that is not specifically indicated in another Contributor. Contributors for a specific day of the week (e.g. Tuesday) or Holiday will apply the TOU parameters to the specific day. Holidays are defined from the Holiday Set (Manage Holiday Sets) assigned to the model.
  • Use DLS. This setting specifies whether the TOU Parameter setting is applied during the DST time frame (Yes), during the non-DST time frame (No) or irrespective of the DST time frame (All). DST is defined based on the assigned Time Zone object for the assigned model.
  • Start Time. This setting identifies the start interval for the parameter setting application. The Start time is used in conjunction with the Day of Week (TOU Param ID) and Daylight Savings Time (Use DLS) settings.
  • Level Horizon. This setting should be an integer greater than or equal to 0. This parameter defines the number of intervals over which the Level model is applied.
  • Ramp Rate Horizon. This setting should be an integer greater than or equal to 0. This parameter defines to how many intervals the Ramp Rate model is applied after the Level Horizon.
  • KF Std Err Up. This number defines the number of standard errors above the forecast that triggers the Kalman Filter calculation. Actual load values outside of the validation range are marked as Bad. Application of the standard error parameter is discussed in the Kalman Filter section.
  • KF Std Err Down. This number defines the number of standard errors below the forecast that triggers the Kalman Filter calculation. Actual load values outside of the validation range are marked as Bad. Application of the standard error parameter is discussed in the Kalman Filter section.
  • Filter Method. This setting defines the Moving Average Method applied during the Filter Data action (Five-Minute Model Actions). The method is applied prior to model estimation when the Filter Data action is run over the estimation period and when the Estimation with Smooth Data option (General Tab) is selected.
  • Fcst Filter Method. This setting defines the Moving Average Method to be applied when the Smooth Forecast option (General Tab) is selected.
