IEE includes several interfaces to allow users to communicate with meters that support the appropriate capabilities. Not all meters have all of the functions that are exposed in the IEE user interface. There are a number of ways that the functionality supported by different meters can be retrieved. IEE offers the following interfaces to communicate with various types of meters:

• AMI connect disconnect. Remotely connect or disconnect service to a meter immediately.

• AMI remote interrogation. Retrieve data from a meter by performing an interrogation.

• AMI interactive communications. Test meter communication and obtain current register and interval readings.

• AMI contingency read monitor. Request and track contingency reads.

• Net metering. Configure and manage net metering for customers who generate energy.
