Net metering
IEE supports the use of net meters in residential and small commercial implementations. Utilities typically deploy a net meter to customers that have some form of on-site energy generation, such as solar panels or a wind turbine. These net metered customers provide some or all of their own energy.
Net metered customers are billed based upon their net energy usage. Net energy usage is the difference between the energy delivered by the utility and the energy the utility received from the customer.
The rate assignment determines whether customers are billed as net metered customers. For example, a customer may have a net meter but not sign up for a net metered rate. This customer will not be billed as a net meter.
