AMI remote interrogation

When you first access Remote Interrogation from this workbench, IEE sets the task type to AMI Remote Interrogation and the task template to DefaultAMIRemoteInterrogation. The task significance dropdown list is disabled.

Note: Security role permissions is required for Communication > Remote Interrogation and AMI > Remote Interrogation AND AMI > Interrogation by Device OR AMI > Interrogation by Group to enable AMI Remote Interrogation from the AMI workbench.

To set up a remote interrogation:

  1. Go to AMI > Processing > AMI Remote Interrogation.
  2. From the ID Selection dropdown menu, select the ClosedEntity Type.

    ClosedEntity Type

Defines the entity that IEE builds the export file or report around. Entity type supports all main configuration entities. The valid values are as follows.

    • service point

    • account

    • meter

    • data routing program

    • monitoring data program

In a task template, select the entity type from the dropdown menu and click Search to find the specific ID. Click the appropriate row in the search results and click OK to add the ID to the task template.

    • Application Group. Defines the unique identifier of the AMI application group entity. Application groups gather multiple endpoints into a single category so you can perform operations on multiple meters at once. Enter the name of your application group.

    • Meter Program. Enter the Meter Program ID.

    • Meter ID. Click the Search button to locate the meter.

After selecting a meter ID, place the cursor over the Gear icon ()to view the meter's capabilities. If a meter ID is not specified, meter capabilities are not applicable.

  3. Under Select Time Span, set the following:

    • Time Period. Use the dropdown menu. The time parameters depend on the selected time period. For example, Start Date, Time, Month, Week, and so on.

    • Time Zone. Enter the time zone that corresponds to the Time Period.

  4. In Task Window (in minutes), enter a whole number. Defines the number of minutes within which the task service must perform the task. For remote interrogation, the default is 480. The default is 480.

  5. Select the checkboxes for any or all of the following:

Note: The following options are available only when the selected entity has that capability.

    ClosedRetrieve Interval Data

Determines whether to retrieve the meter interval reads data.

    ClosedRetrieve Extended Load Profile Data

Determines whether to retrieve extended load profile data from the device.

    ClosedRetrieve Register Data

Determines whether to retrieve the meter register reads data.

    ClosedRetrieve Extended Current Register Data

Determines whether to retrieve extended current data from the device.

    ClosedRetrieve Home Network Data

Determines whether to retrieve information about a customer's home network that is compatible with AMI devices, for example a Zigbee network.

    ClosedRetrieve Network Statistics

Determines whether IEE retrieves network statistic information during a remote interrogation.

    ClosedRetrieve Events Data

Defines whether IEE retrieves the meter event log file.

    ClosedRetrieve Recent Registers

Defines whether IEE retrieves the registers.

    ClosedRetrieve Voltage Monitor Data

Determines whether to retrieve voltage monitor data from the meter.

    ClosedRetrieve Instrumentation Profile Data

Determines whether to retrieve instrumentation profile data from the device.

    ClosedRetrieve Last Demand Reset

Defines whether IEE retrieves the date and time of the last demand reset. This is the date and time you last set demand values in the metering device to zero.

    ClosedPerform Demand Reset

Set demand values in the metering device to zero.

    ClosedRetrieve Prior Self Read

Determines whether to retrieve self reads during an AMI remote interrogation task. Select the checkbox to retrieve one or more self reads. Clear the checkbox to exclude self reads from the interrogation.

The Enable Self Read Options system setting determines which self read options are available in remote interrogation tasks.

    Scheduled and Recurring Remote Interrogations

    • If the Enable Self Read Options system setting value is True, then scheduled and recurring AMI remote interrogation tasks retrieve the most recent self read that occurred within the reading period.

    • If the Enable Self Read Options system setting value is False, then AMI remote interrogation tasks retrieve the most recent self read that was recorded by the device. This is the self read from the most recent midnight and may have occurred after the end of the reading period.

    Manual Remote Interrogations

    • If the Enable Self Read Options system setting value is True, then a dropdown menu appears when you select the Retrieve Prior Self Read checkbox on the task template. Select the type of self reads to retrieve.

    • Retrieve at End Time. Retrieves the most recent self read within the reading period.

    • Retrieve All in Period. Retrieves up to 12 self reads that were recorded within the reading period.

    ClosedRetrieve Prior Extended Self Read

Determines whether to retrieve prior extended Self Read data from the device.

    ClosedPerform and Retrieve Self Read

Determines whether metering devices programmed to read and store their own channel values will perform a self-read and retrieve the values. Select the checkbox to enable this functionality.

  6. Select the ClosedExternal System from the dropdown menu.

Defines any external IEE system to which IEE configuration data can be associated. In many places this parameter provides you with the dropdown menu to select from the external systems configured in the External System table. This option is applicable for remote interrogation only when the entity type is Application Group.

  7. (Optional) Update the Task Template Parameters for this remote interrogation task instance.

  8. Click Run.

Note: Remote interrogation functionality is also accessible from MDM > Tools > Data Retrieval > Remote Interrogation.
