Service Management–Service

Accessible from any table row on the Service Management tab, a Service Management–Service screen provides information about the processes that can be started (hosted) on the selected service. Not all processes can be started on every service type.

Note:  The table can be sorted by any column by clicking the desired column header. By default, the table is sorted by the Process column.

The table consists of the following columns:

  • Process. The name of the process.
  • Status. The status of the process. Each process can have one of the following statuses:
    • RUNNING. The process has started and is running. Processes with this status can be stopped.
    • DEPENDENCY WAIT. The process is waiting for another (required) process to start. Processes with this status can be stopped.
    • SHUTDOWN. The process is not running. Processes with this status can be removed from the service or started.
    • ERROR. An error occurred as the process was running. Processes with this status can be removed from the service or started.
  • TCP port. The TCP port used by the process. If the process does not require a TCP port, this field will be blank. Also, if the service status is INACTIVE, SURPLUS, or SHUTDOWN, this field will be blank. For descriptions of these service statuses, see Service Management.
  • Command. This column is blank unless an action to start, stop, or remove the process has been initiated. This field indicates the current action as it processes. As soon as the action completes, the Status field updates and the Command field becomes blank.
  • Actions (). This menu provides the following options for any or all selected rows:
    • Start process. Changes the service status to RUNNING. This option is enabled only if all selected processes are in the SHUTDOWN or ERROR status and none of the selected processes already have received a start command.
    • Stop process. Changes the process status to INACTIVE. This option is enabled only if all selected processes are in the RUNNING or DEPENDENCY WAIT status or if they are in the SHUTDOWN or ERROR status with a command to start.
    • Remove process. Removes the selected process(es) entirely from the service configuration. This option is enabled only if the service itself has a status of INACTIVE, SURPLUS, or SHUTDOWN and all selected processes are in the SHUTDOWN or ERROR status.
    • Edit (). Click this icon to open an Edit process dialog box to change the TCP port for the process. In the dialog box, enter a valid TCP Port value and then click Update.

Note:  The Edit () option is available only for processes that require a TCP port.

Tip:  To filter the table, click the filter icon () to open a dialog box. From here, you can select any of the available known values listed by process Status.
