Rate assignment overview

A rate assignment is the link between a service point and one or more rates. The rate assignment includes service point billing attributes. These are service point attributes required by the rate to fully calculate a bill. Examples include voltage, contract demand, phase of service, contract start date, and standby service.

Caution: Use the rate assignment tool in the Meter Data Management workbench for commercial and industrial implementations. For AMI implementations, use program-based configuration for manual rate assignment updates.

Rate assignments have an effective date and an end date that define the period of time the rate is assigned to the service point. A rate can be assigned to a service point for multiple non-contiguous periods of time. The period between the assignments can be empty (no rate is assigned) or filled with one or more assignments of another rate.

Note: Effective date and times on rates, bill attributes, and rate assignments are shown relative to the user's workgroup time zone rather than relative to the Service Point time zone. The Service Point time zone is used for bill determinant and rate calculations.

A rate schedule can have multiple service points assigned to it. Every service point has a current rate assignment, indicated by the IsCurrent flag in the rate assignment properties.

A service point can have many rate schedules assigned to it. The current rate assignment can include more than one rate.

IEE provides a means of assigning rate assignments by both service point and rate schedule.
