Manual validation

Use Manual Validation to run validation on demand. Manual validations allow you to do the following:

  • Perform a “what if” analysis by overriding the default validation set for a service point channel and temporarily assigning a different validation set. If you override the default validation set, you cannot save the results of the analysis; in this mode you can only generate the validation report to preview the data. This capability enables you to test various validation options while leaving the data in its current state.

  • Validate and save data for a specified date range.

  • Examine why a set of data is failing a particular validation rule.

The options available when running manual validation are as follows:

  • Report Only. The validation runs and generates a report but does not mark the actual data with the validation results or save any data to the database.

  • Report and Mark Validation. The validation runs and generates a report and marks data with the validation results, then saves the data and validation logs to the database.

Mark Validation Only. The validation runs and does not generate a report but does mark data with the validation results, then saves the data and validation logs to the database.

Note: You must have the following security permissions to use this feature. For more information, see User role permissions: Descriptions.

  • Manual Validation

Manually Editing and Validating Register Data

See Editing register reads.

Use the following procedure to manually validate interval or register data:

  1. Go to Meter Data Management >Tools > Validation.

Note: Running manual validation from the Meter Data Management workbench allows you to use any validation set that is available for manual validation processes. IEE also allows you to run manual validation from the readings validation queue. However, the queue allows manual validation only against the validation set or sets that are assigned to the service point channel.

  2. Double-click Manual Validation.

  3. In the Select ID area, use the dropdown menu to select the type of entity that you search for service points or groups. The choices are:

    • Service Point Channel. Enter a service point ID in the Service Point field, or use the Using the search utility function to find one. In this case, Validation will only run on this channel.

    • Service Point. Enter a service point ID in the Service Point field, or use the Using the search utility function to find one. In this case, Validation will run on all metered interval or register channels, stored formula interval or register channels, and imported channels.

    • Meter. Enter a service point ID in the Service Point field, or use the Using the search utility function to find one. In this case, Validation will run on all metered interval or register channels.

  4. IEE displays available validation sets, if any, in the field below the Use Default Validation checkbox. Any validation sets that were pre-assigned to your selection(s) in the Select ID area are automatically checked. If you leave the Use Default Validation checkbox filled (the system default), then the list of available validation sets is unavailable. IEE will only use pre-assigned validation sets when you run the Validation.

  5. Optional: To override these sets, clear Use Default Validation. You can select other validation sets in the system. While you would normally be limited to three sets, here you can select any number of sets since you will not be able to save the results of this validation to the database (to protect existing data and their assigned statuses).

Note: If you want to create a new group of rules for this validation, you must first create and save the new validation set so that it appears in this list.

  6. For Select Time Span, choose an option:

    • Select the Time Period from the dropdown menu and select the appropriate date and time criteria.

    • (Optional) Click Reading Groups to view and select a particular meter reading group. For more information about using reading groups, see Reading group selection.

    • (Optional) Click Schedule Dates to select a Time of Use (TOU) schedule. For more information, see Schedule dates.

  7. Select Report Only, Report and Mark Validation, or Mark Validation Only.

Important! If you clear the Use Default Validation checkbox, the only manual validation option available is Report Only. This is to protect existing data and their assigned statuses.

  8. Click Run Validation. The validation report appears when IEE is finished validating the data.
