Editing register reads

Use Edit Register Reads to view register reads, to edit the raw register reading for a register channel that is not linked to an interval channel, and to view register validation results.

The Edit Register Reads window displays all register reads. However, to edit register reads that are linked to an interval channel, the Edit Linked Register Reads system setting must be set to True.

When you edit register readings, IEE does not adjust any associated interval data. In contrast, when you edit interval data, associated register readings can be adjusted. You can only delete register reads for channels that are not linked to an interval channel.

Caution: Editing register reads is a manual process. This feature is intended to be used rarely and with caution.

You can access the Edit Register Reads function by selecting a register channel in the Validation Queue list or from the Editing and Estimation menu in the Meter Data Management workbench. When you select a channel in the Edit Register Reads window:

  • The raw register reading and calculated engineering unit data are displayed as a graph.
  • The table below the graph shows the raw register readings, calculated Engineering Units, and the validation status. Use this table to edit the register reading.
  • Register validation results are shown below the table.
  1. Go to Meter Data Management > Tools > Editing and Estimation > Edit Register Reads.

Note: You can also access this window from the Validation Queue by right-clicking the entry in the queue list and selecting Edit Register Reads. When you select Edit Register Reads from the Validation Queue, there is no need to select the service point, time period, or time zone. Skip to step 6.

  2. Select the Entity Type to search for.
  3. Enter the ID or click Search to locate the entity. For help with searching, see Using the search utility.
  4. To select the time span, choose an option:
    • Select the Time Period from the dropdown menu and then enter or select the appropriate date and time criteria. The options displayed are conditional, based on the time period selected.
  5. Select a Time Zone, if different from the default time zone shown.
  6. Optional: To see a register read as of a particular date and time within the time period you selected, clear the None checkbox and enter the As of date and time. If you entered an As of date and time, you cannot edit the readings. You can edit only current readings.
  7. Click View Register Channels. IEE displays register channels for the selected service point along with information about the channel. Register channels that are linked to interval channels are identified as "Linked Channel" in the Information column. Metering changes are also identified in the Information column.
  8. In Register Channels, select the register channel to view or edit.
  9. Click View Register Channels. The right side of the window displays details for the channel selected:
    • Graph pane. A bar graph shows the register readings and a line graph represents the engineering units.
    • Readings pane. Raw register readings, engineering units, and the register validation status are listed in the table following the graph. For standalone registers, you can edit the raw register reading in this area.
    • Validation Results pane. Validation results display below the table.
  10. To edit a register reading, enter the new value in the Reading column and (optional) then click Preview Validation.
    • The graph above the table is revised based on the new value.
    • The validation status is updated based on the edited value. Register validation results are shown in the Validation Results pane (below the Readings pane).

    • If the validation passed, you can change the register reading in the database by clicking Save. The data is validated before it is saved and the validation results are displayed in the lower pane.
    • If new register reads need to be added, click Add Register Read. This is useful for adding field reads. When you click OK on the Add Register Read dialog, the new read will be validated.
    • If the validation failed, you can enter a new register reading value, click Preview Validation, and check the validation results again.
    • If the validation failed, but you want to save the new register read value anyway, click Manual Accept.
