Updating an AppServ version for testing

Updating an AppServ version downloads and installs a version of AppServ for testing purposes. Only the Utility Tester role has permissions to perform this task.

Important! For DI-capable devices on the OpenWay Riva network, AppServ is included in the DI-capable meter's firmware image and is not managed separately from the firmware. The information and procedures in this section do not apply.

  1. On a Devices / Device Group page (displays details of one device group), click the Device List tab.

Tip: You can also upgrade an AppServ version from the Applications / ApplicationServices page's (displays details of AppServ) Device List tab.

Tip: The information on this page automatically refreshes every 24 hours. To manually retrieve the newest information about the application, click Refresh.

  2. To upgrade an AppServ version on all devices in the group, from the dropdown menu, select Upgrade AppServ Version and click Perform Action.

    or

To upgrade an application version on a single device, click the ellipsis menu () in the row and select Upgrade AppServ Version.

  3. Select an AppServ version to install from the New Version dropdown menu.

Tip: If some devices in the device group have firmware versions that are incompatible with the AppServ version being installed, the installation job fails on those devices but runs on the other devices.

  4. (Optional) Modify the time limit (in days) for the job with the Time Limit. The default value is 7 days.

Important! The default value is recommended for most networks. Contact Itron Support before editing this value. Most jobs complete within this time limit, but network usage and the utility environment can impact performance. If the Upgrade Version job is not completed when this time limit is reached, the job displays a status of Completed (if it was able to complete on some devices) or Failed (if it did not complete on any devices). For more information, see Jobs.

  5. Select the Proceed with update checkbox.

  6. Click Upgrade Version.

Troubleshooting: If no response or a 500 error is returned for the job, it automatically enters a paused state. EAC tries to automatically resume paused jobs at set intervals, or users can manually intervene. For more information, see Resuming or canceling paused jobs.
