UOM (unit of measure)
A unit of measure (UOM) is a collection of data types that describe a specific data stream. UOMs are associated with service point channels and are incorporated into a number of IEE operations, including exports and imports.
The UOM data types, or properties, are combined in different ways to form each unique unit of measure. Most of the available properties are specific to a particular commodity type (electric, gas, or water).
Some examples of these data types are:
-
Commodity, including electric, gas, water, and weather.
-
Base units, such as kWh, kBTUh, and % humidity.
-
Power flow, including delivered and received.
-
Value, including average, last, and maximum.
IEE supplies a number of pre-configured UOMs, and users can reconfigure existing UOMs as needed. New UOMs can be requested for addition using external scripts. This flexibility allows you to edit the list of available UOMs to only those that meet your specific needs.
UOMs have a unique ID assigned to them. This ID is used for specifying the UOM within the various configuration tools throughout IEE. The ID consists of a shortcut code (such as KWH_DEL_GEN_ABC) that is associated with each UOM. This shortcut code makes it easy to assign a UOM to a particular service point channel.
Shortcut codes are always capitalized. As you learn the shortcut codes, you can key them into the Shortcut Code field and the system attempts to complete the code as it is typed. Eventually, enough of the code is keyed in to arrive at a unique one.
When a meter channel (interval or register) is added to a service point channel, the system checks the unit portion of the meter channel to verify that it matches the unit portion of the UOM.
Tip: Right-click an existing service point channel, select Add Interval Channelor Add Register Channel, and click the new meter channel you created (interval or register). The Unit field pre-populates with the same UOM as the service point channel above it.
Existing UOMs are updated using UOM maintenance.
