Group maintenance

Use Group Maintenance to create configuration groups. Configuration groups allow you to perform operations on multiple meters that are members of a configuration group. For example, you can perform the following operations on configuration groups:

  • Interrogate all meters in a configuration group with one interrogation operation.

  • Export data for a group of service points by selecting the service point group rather than selecting individual service points.

  • Perform aggregation calculations.

  • Generate reports.

Group membership is based on shared configuration parameters that are defined by the group. IEE supports the following configuration group types:

  • Dynamic Configuration Groups. Dynamic groups are analogous to queries. Membership in dynamic groups is determined at the time the dynamic group is referenced. Membership in the group typically changes over time. For example, a dynamic group that had 100 meters last week might have 200 meters this week, as new meters are installed that meet the dynamic group's criteria. The intent of dynamic groups is to identify entities that share specific criteria at a point in time. IEE automatically adds entities that meet the criteria to the group, and automatically removes entities that no longer meet the criteria. When you select a dynamic group for reporting, export, or other purposes, IEE compiles all entities matching the defined parameters. For more information, see Creating dynamic groups.

  • Static Configuration Groups. Defines a fixed group of entities. Assign entities to the group and every action performed on the group applies to all member entities. For example, if you are researching 10 specific meters, create a static group containing those meters. IEE saves static groups so you can use them in the future. For more information, see Creating static groups.

You can access the Group Maintenance window from the Meter Data Management workbench. Go to Meter Data Management > Application Data > Advanced Configuration > Group Maintenance.

Tip: Group Maintenance is also referred to as Advanced Grouping.
