Configuring a routing program channel
To configure a data routing program channel, you must specify the following:
-
Channel Type
-
SP Channel #
-
Meter Channel #
-
UOM
-
Configure the following parameters:
Channel type
A routing program channel can either be an interval channel or a register channel.
Interval channel
An interval channel stores a data quantity recorded by a metering device for a set frequency. For example, with a 15-minute interval, register values are recorded every 15 minutes. The time between readings is both predictable and exact. The interval length, also called the interval frequency, is the number of minutes that elapse between recording register values. Interval lengths divide evenly into 60, with the exception of the 1440-minute interval that represents 24 hours.
Register channel
A register channel records a single value quantity. A single value quantity is one that is not recorded on a precise timer interval or frequency; the time between readings is irregularly-spaced and not predictable. Register quantities usually represent total or summary values over a much longer time period than interval values.
SP channel #
Defines the service point channel (SPC).
SPC number is required for channel configuration of a data routing program, whether it is associated with a monitoring data program or not. For revenue data routed to MDM, the SPC number must match an SPC number that is configured in IEE. For monitoring data that is routed to an external system, using a monitoring data program, the SPC number is required for the channel addressing method.
Meter channel #
Defines the meter channel.
The meter channel number is not required on the data routing program, unless the program is related to a monitoring data program. For more information about the Meter Channel # on a monitoring data program, see Configuring a monitoring data program channel.
UOM
Defines the reading unit of measure (UOM). UOM is required for channel configuration of both a data routing program and a monitoring data program.
For revenue data routed to MDM, the UOM must match a UOM ID that is configured in IEE.
For more information about UOM in the monitoring data program, see Configuring a monitoring data program channel.
Routing data type
The routing program allows you to configure a processing path for each specific channel, rather than relying on the service point configuration. This field determines the route the data in this channel will take once it enters the Import Data Manager. The valid values are as follows:
- Monitoring Channel. Select this option when data is not being imported into MDM. This data is normalized and exported to external systems. When you select Monitoring Channel as the routing data type, you must create a monitoring data program. For more information, see Create a monitoring data program.
- Revenue Channel. Select this option when data is routed to an external system prior to import for ARI processing. When the routing data type is Revenue Channel, the Immediate Export checkbox is automatically selected. For more information about ARI processing, see the IEE AMI Reading Import Guide.
- Revenue Channel using SRI-E (bypass ARI). Select this option when data is routed to MDM for SRI-E processing, regardless of the settings on the service point configuration.
When the Discard checkbox is selected, this field is unavailable.
Immediate export
Determines if the data associated with this channel is made immediately available to an external system. This option works in conjunction with the Routing Data Type.
When the Data Type is Revenue Channel, Immediate Export is automatically selected and unvalidated data is immediately exported to an external system before it is imported into MDM for processing.
Note: Data that is imported into MDM is validated before processing.
When the Data Type is Monitoring Data, Immediate Export is automatically selected and unvalidated data is immediately exported to an external system. Data in a monitoring data channel is not imported into MDM.
When the Data Type is Revenue Channel using SRI-E (bypass ARI), Immediate Export is available for selection. Manually select this option when you want the data to be imported into MDM after an immediate export.
Immediate Export is automatically selected and unavailable for the following data types:
-
Revenue Channel
-
Monitoring Channel
Immediate Export is available for manual selection for the data type:
-
Revenue Channel using SRI-E (bypass ARI)
When the Discard checkbox is selected, this field is unavailable.
Discard data
Determines if the data associated with this routing program channel is automatically discarded. Select this option when you are not interested in this channel data. Data marked for automatic discard is stored temporarily in the Discard folder and purged after a user specified number of days based on an IDM system setting.
When you select Discard, the Routing Data Type and the Immediate Export fields are unavailable.
