Net metering data flow

A net meter delivers data to IEE in two contributor channels:

  • A delivered channel measures the amount of energy the utility delivers to the customer.

  • A received channel measures the amount of energy the utility receives from the customer.

For all customers that are candidates for net metering, IEE collects the data from these two channels at every interval. IEE runs this data through a formula channel that calculates the net amount of energy delivered or received. If the results fit one of the configured usage patterns, IEE calculates a net energy value.

Administrators configure IEE to perform the net metering calculation after the readings import task. Net metering calculations must complete before IEE runs the daily reading summary, the like day algorithm, and the demand response event participation evaluation.

Demand response programs that use a baseline or customer reference level to calculate a reduction in usage during an event require a stored net channel. The program uses this stored net channel to evaluate like-days when evaluating event eligibility.
