Diagnosing and Troubleshooting a HAN

The HAN Operations page displays statistics about the HAN's activity. You do not need to log into the HAN to see the HAN Agent Status.

HAN Agent Statistics

Field Label

Description

Provision Status

The current state of the meter's connection to the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point.

  • Disabled. The meter is not connected to the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point.
  • Joining. The meter is attempting to connect to the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point.
  • Joined. The meter is connected to the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point.
  • No Network. If the homeowner verifies that their Wi-Fi is working correctly, this status can occur if the Wi-Fi router is too far away. Ask the homeowner to move the router closer to meter.
  • Join General Failure. The meter tried and failed to connect to the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point. This could be the result of any of the following problems:
    • The user entered the wrong SSID and/or password for the Wi-Fi router. Verify the SSID and password and retry.
    • The Wi-Fi router is still too far from the meter to establish a reliable connection. Move the Wi-Fi router closer to the meter or add a Wi-Fi range extender.
    • The Wi-Fi router might be more than 10 years old. Replace the Wi-Fi router with a newer router.
    • The Wi-Fi router may have IGMP proxying turned off. It should be turned on and have the Wi-Fi router restarted. This should allow the meter and Wi-Fi router to start communicating.

Note: You can also see the HAN Provision Status on the Status Values

Provision Date

The date and time when the HAN was provisioned.

Requests From Clients Not in Whitelist

"Whitelist" is a standard security policy that keeps track of which devices are approved to communicate within the network. You create the whitelist when you add the LFDIs of all 2030.5 devices in this HAN.

If any unauthorized devices attempt to communicate with the meter/2030.5 HAN agent, this field displays the number of attempts. All non-zero values should be investigated.

Received mDNS Queries for Smartenergy

As a security measure, this field displays the number of times client devices have requested a "smartenergy" server using mDNS.

Reset Time of Security (Failed TLS) Statistics

The date and time when the TLS statistics were cleared from the meter.

RSSI of Router

Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) shows how powerful the homeowner's Wi-Fi Access Point is.

  • -100 is very poor; the hardware may have trouble turning the transmission into meaningful data and there will be many dropped packets.

  • -70 is average.

  • -50 is approaching saturation.

  • -999 indicates that HAN is not provisioned, or the meter is acting as the AP.

Reset Time of Packet Statistics

The date and time when the packet statistics were cleared from the meter.

Total Packets Received

The number of all IP packets successfully received over Wi-Fi to the meter.

Total Packets Sent

The number of all IP packets sent out over Wi-Fi from the meter.

Total Packets Resent

The number of IP packets resent, which may suggest Wi-Fi communications problems with the client, or the server and the Wi-Fi router.

Failed TLS Requests

The number of received IP packets in which the client failed to properly encrypt the packet data causing a packet resend request.

Description

Select All

If you are removing all the LFDIs from the HAN, click the check box in the table header. If you are removing one LFDI, click the check box in that row only.

Note: The system offers no "Undo" mechanism. You must re-enter the 40-character code to add the device to the HAN again.

LFDI

A 20-byte (40 digit hexadecimal) identifier for each registered client.

Registration Date

The date and time that the LFDI was registered to the meter's HAN access control list.

HTTP Errors

The number of improperly formed HTTP requests from the client.

Invalid URLs

The number of invalid URL requests made by the client represented by the LFDI. A large number might suggest a hacker device probing the system.
