Completing the Installation
On a Handheld
Note: Handhelds must be connected to AC power during synchronization or installation of the mobile software to ensure the success of radio firmware updates. Your connection to the FDM server must be a high-speed Internet connection. FDM does not support dial-up connections.
-
On the handheld’s Windows desktop, double-tap the FDM application shortcut.
-
FDM prompts you to verify your operating system’s date and time.
-
Do one of the following:
-
If the date and time information is not correct, tap Incorrect.
FDM displays a message instructing you to set the correct date and time.
Tap OK to quit the start-up procedure and return to the desktop.
Correct the time and date before restarting FDM (see Setting the handheld’s date, time, and time zone).
-
If the date and time are correct, tap Correct.
-
-
The first time you start FDM, it displays a Server Address screen. If your FDM system is being hosted by Itron:
-
In the Host box, type
xxx.itron-hosting.com
, where xxx is a unique identifier assigned to your utility by Itron. -
In the Port box, enter
8731
. -
In the Domain box, type
ll-hosting
(two lowercase letterl
’s, a hyphen, and the wordhosting
).
If your FDM system is hosted locally, enter the appropriate host, port, and domain, as specified when your FDM server software was installed (see “Pre-Installation Worksheet” in the Field Deployment Manager Server Installation Guide).
Tap OK to continue.
-
-
FDM opens the logon window. Enter your user name (also called your user ID) and password.
For security reasons, the system displays a row of asterisks (*) in the Password box as you type it in, rather than your actual password.
-
After you have entered your user name and password, tap OK.
The FDM mobile application tries to communicate with the FDM server through your Internet connection. If the communication attempt is successful, the system runs a synchronization procedure during which the server updates the mobile application and, if applicable, the handheld’s operating system.
On a PC
-
Make sure your PC is connected to the Internet.
-
On the PC’s Windows desktop, double-click the FDM application shortcut.
-
FDM prompts you to verify your operating system’s date and time.
Tip: The first time you run the FDM mobile application on a PC after installation, the application window’s size and location are set by default. You can re-size and move the window as you would for any other Windows application. When you close FDM, the system saves the window’s size and location and uses them to display the window the next time you run FDM. For simplicity and space considerations, most illustrations in this guide show FDM screens at the size at which they would appear on a handheld.
