Open Session

Before FDM can perform functions that modify an endpoint's settings, it must first execute an open session command. This temporarily unlocks the endpoint for an hour or until the FSR performs a Close Session command (see Close Session). During an open session, you can perform any number of commands that modify endpoint settings.

Note:  Unlike the Close Session command, the open session command is performed automatically as needed by FDM, invisible to and without direct action by the FSR.

100 series endpoints only execute an open session command if they are in a command security or full security state and only during a program action (program endpoint, reset endpoint, change mode, reset tampers, etc.)

These endpoint include 100G (phase 4), 100W (phase 4), 100T-GGRD, 100T-CP, and 100T-HON endpoints.

OpenWay Riva 500G ERTs, Gen5 500G ERT Modules, OpenWay Riva 500W ERT Modules, Gen5 500W ERT Modules, Intelis Gas Meter, and Gen5 Intelis Gas Meters operating in mobile mode will also only execute an open session command if they are in a command security or full security state and will operate in the same way as the 100 series endpoints.
