Features
DI is extremely flexible, meaning your DI project (for example, your utility's security, meters, meter firmware versions, network architecture, app licenses; and how it is all designed) is likely distinct from DI platforms at other utilities. When we discuss DI, we discuss it as an entity, however, in doing so we exclude too many details before we must acknowledge those distinct project differences. Further yet, Itron's DI platform consists of several vital components (described further in DI Components on an ACT Network or DI Components on a GenX Network, depending on your network).
An explanation of a new feature that greatly expands the usability of a DI project or app—a feature which was created specially to do so—is not possible to explain if we only look at DI as an entity. In fact, the changes and enhancements that took place to create the feature, did not happen to DI. Those changes and enhancements took place exclusively in the DI platform vital components (and were then tested to Itron's DI project standards).
This section provides descriptions of what certain features are and why certain features greatly expand the usability of DI. But it does so while providing as limited an explanation as possible for how those features work (or how to make them work). This is because explanations for how features work rely too heavily on the distinctions of each utility's DI project.
Some feature descriptions may include more details than others. For each feature it is likely that additional documentation exists in each component's product documentation, and where appropriate, in other DI documents. Wherever possible, the following sections provide links or references to more information.
