ApplicationServices (AppServ) release notes
This section details the release notes for AppServ on the GenX network. For release notes information for AppServ on an OpenWay Riva network, see the relevant DI-capable meter's firmware release notes.

This release occurred on April 21, 2025.
Compatibility
This release is compatible with the Gen5 Riva Meter's firmware 10.8.551 to 10.8.999 (release 3.1.1).
New features and enhancements
3087102: Consolidated SDK API support
AppServ now supports the DI SDK's consolidated API. This gives DI application developers access to all features in a single SDK API.
3341804: Per-country cloud server configuration support
AppServ now supports per-country cloud server configuration. This enables improved localization, compliance with regional regulations, and optimized performance based on geographical needs.
Resolved issues
3341812: Database write times were taking too long.
Resolution: Now, database write performance has been improved by introducing a queue.
3459898: Agents experiencing timeouts because of missing DBus message replies.
Resolution: Now, there are no agent timeouts because the error handling correctly sends responses to all errors.
Known issues
2856291: When only one agent is installed in either the Itron or Third-Party container and that agent is removed, an unknown event (1245186) is observed in FDM Tools
Workaround: None at this time. The occurrence of this event causes no adverse effects.

This release occurred on April 21, 2025.
Compatibility
This release is compatible with the Gen5 Riva Meter's firmware 10.5.769 to 10.5.999 (release 3.1).

Resolved issues
Feature configuration (FeatureConfg) for the Data Collection Agent (DCA) was intermittently failing.
Resolution: Now, sending a FeatureConfig for the DCA performs as expected.
Known issues
2856291: When only one agent is installed in either the Itron or Third-Party container and that agent is removed, an unknown event (1245186) is observed in FDM Tools

New features and enhancements
Support for a new alarm type
Earlier AppServ (and DI) versions supported events and alarms. Events are sent to the head end system during interrogation; alarms are sent to the head end system immediately and then re-sent during interrogation. The new one-shot alarm type is sent to the head end system immediately but is not re-sent during interrogation. The one-shot alarm type supports forthcoming DI applications.
DI Data Cloud
Adds support that allows for an application to transfer metering data to an Itron server using an internet connection and a local Wi-Fi connection.
Data transfer limits
To enable improvements in outcomes applications, AppServ application data transfer limits have been modified.
Known issues
AppServ has no known issues at this time.

This release occurred on January 30, 2023.

Maximum required meter firmware 10.5.999
New features and enhancements
Removal of DI agents from containers
Agent removal initiated by the EAC is now supported. Enhancements included in an upcoming EAC release will complete the requirement that allow total agent deletion.
AppServ distinguishes DI Dev Key (DDK) meters from production meters.
A DDK meter is manufactured with a script injected into it that allows the meter to run third-party DI agents without licensing requirements. When a developer initially uploads their agent to the EAC an automated process calls the Application Management Service (AMS). The AMS dev signs the agent, giving the agent the DDK signature and allowing the agent to run on the meter. With AppServ's recognition of the DDK meter's dev keys, third-party development is made more convenient by bypassing licensing requirements.
Known issues
AppServ has no known issues at this time.

This release occurred on December 6, 2022. This version is bundled with firmware differential update package 10.5.750.
For customers installing the 10.5.750 differential firmware upgrade, AppServ 1.7.402 and the Home Area Network (HAN) agent both complete installation when the firmware upgrade completes.
For customers receiving new meters from the factory (with the 10.5.750 firmware included), a six hour waiting period must pass before AppServ 1.7.402 completes its installation. The meter's HAN agent installation completes six hours after the AppServ installation completes.

New features and enhancements
New DI data, events, and alarms handling during meter swaps
This functionality ensures that utility customers may uninstall, reinstall, or replace DI-enabled meters quickly. Based off manual query results in the EAC for recently swapped meter, AppServ automatically removes all relevant agent licenses from swapped meters with agents and removes DI data, events, and alarms from the databases for archival.
Support for the new Gen™5 Riva Polyphase Electricity Meter
All the DI functionality found in the Gen5 Riva Singlephase Electricity Meter is now available to the new Gen5 Riva Polyphase Electricity Meter. In addition, AppServ has been updated to support polyphase meter-specific features, such as enhancements that allow AppServ to:
-
Calculate new metrology values introduced with multiple phases.
-
Support agent subscriptions to new polyphase meter-specific metrology data.
-
Process and respond to metrology data at the faster rate supplied by the polyphase meter.
Enhancements for the HAN 2030.5 agent
Added support for subscriptions to additional energy register data to support updates to the HAN 2030.5 agent.
Support for DI's new Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology
AppServ provides the primary mechanisms for cross-agent communication, including security and protection for data transmission. DI peer-to-peer (P2P) is a technology that allows agents on DI meters to exchange encrypted data packets between agents on the same meter and other meters before it is transmitted to an application or HES. AppServ's new functionality to support this includes enhancements and policy file implementations to:
-
Provide agents connectivity information for radio-frequency (RF) and power-line carrier (PLC) networks
-
Store P2P diagnostics statistics about each agent feature for troubleshooting

For the DI GenX GSR 1.2 system release, AppServ is a new feature that is distinct from device firmware.
As the primary interface between the Agent API and DI agents, AppServ provides communication through subscriptions and delivers data separation and access through use of permissions. These changes bring increased data security and allow utilities to implement DI API changes at a faster rate than can occur with system releases. While many of these changes are implemented through use of the new DI Policy, AppServ enforces the policy file resource management definitions by:
-
Reporting DI Policy violations to the App Store Platform
-
Storing DI Policy violations in statistics digests
-
Applying the default daily limit for agent-specific outcome and upstream data limits
-
Applying the default daily limit for agent-specific agent director alarms
AppServ enforces data separation and access by:
-
Controlling access to meter/endpoint identity data, agent data, metrology data, and the metrology data message queue
-
Allowing or disallowing agent director data upstream based on permissions
-
Limiting agent applications to read and subscribe to only meter and metrology data
-
Implementing change request registration, activation processes, and validation of agent application identity
AppServ packages can be updated on Gen5 Riva Meters using FDM Tools' Manage Agent Images operations. For more information on updating Gen5 Riva Meter DI packages, see the most up-to-date version of the Field Deployment Manager Tools Mobile Application Guide.
