Device deprovisioning
Device deprovisioning is when a device leaves active service. When a device is deprovisioned in OpenWay Collection Manager (OWCM) or UtilityIQ software, the EAC is notified and automatically performs the following updates:
-
The device is removed from all device groups and their membership counts are updated.
-
Any applied application licenses are restored to their license sets.
-
The device is dropped from any active jobs it is a part of.
Important! After a deprovision notification from OWCM or DINA, further interrogation responses are ignored for 24 hours to prevent the device from being added back in the EAC. This gives time for the device to be physically removed from the network and helps prevent the EAC from showing devices that are no longer in the head end system or deployed in the field. In addition, within 24 hours of receiving a deprovision notification from OWCM or DINA, any meter swap notifications that include the deprovisioned device as a new (replacing) device will be ignored, and no automatic application replacement installation jobs or Replace Pending status will be performed on the device. Deprovisioned devices are not expected to return to active use within 24 hours.
When a deprovisioned device is reinstated to service and discovered via meter interrogation, the EAC is notified and automatically performs the following updates:
-
The device is added to the All Devices group and the membership count is updated.
-
If the device still has record of at least one installed application, the Purge Application job is initiated. The device health status is set to Purging and application installs are blocked while the device is in this state.
-
If the Purge Application job fails, the device health status is set to PurgeFailed until the next interrogation, when the Purge Application job is automatically triggered again.
-
If the Purge Application job succeeds, it removes any installed application licenses and stops agents. The device health status is set to Purged until the next interrogation, when it changes to Ok.
Important! On GenX devices with ApplicationServices (AppServ) version 1.5.104 or higher, the Purge Application job also deletes agent data. It does not delete the agent.
