Installing a server certificate

Before you begin, obtain an SSL certificate for client and server authentication from your IT department. For more details on the certificate attributes required, contact Itron Support. After obtaining the SSL certificate, perform the following tasks:

1. If the CA certificate is provided separately, install the public server certificate CA to the machine store: Certificates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certification Authorities.

2. Install the server certificate with public and private keys to the machine store: Certificates (Local Computer) > Personal.

3. Obtain a public server certificate thumbprint: Certificates (Local Computer) > Details > Thumbprint. Copy and paste this thumbprint to a text editor to delete the extra white space and to remove the hidden special characters at the beginning of the thumbprint. The special characters are 00, which is NULL.

Important! Be sure to save this thumbprint. It is used in the next step and in the installation/configuration files.
