AMI communications

This section explains how to configure Itron OpenWay and IEE for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communications. We explain how to connect the two systems using web services and how to configure the following IEE subsystems:

  • AMI Reading Import (ARI)

  • Interactive Communications

  • Device Events

AMI is an architecture for automated, interactive communication between a utility company and smart energy management devices, including smart meters, thermostats, refrigerators, pool heaters, and other energy management devices. AMI provides utility companies with real-time power consumption data and enables customers to change their consumption patterns to take advantage of lower prices based on the price at the time of use.

This guide explains how to:

  • Configure Itron OpenWay as an AMI Collection System

  • Configure web services to enable communication between IEE and Itron OpenWay

  • Configure AMI Readings Import (ARI)

    • Configure ARI system settings

    • Configure ARI services

    • Configure IEE Gap Fill Interrogation

  • Configure IEE tasks

  • Map Events between Itron OpenWay and IEE

  • Map units of measure between Itron OpenWay and IEE
