Required security certificate
IEE requires a security certificate to provide a secure database connection. Create your own certificates or obtain third-party certificates. Follow the utility's IT department's policy on obtaining and installing security certificates. Acquiring and installing certificates is outside of the scope of this document. The only requirement is that the security certificate must be installed prior to the installation process.
IEE requires a security certificate on the application server. If there are multiple application servers, all servers can use the same certificate or different certificates. Install the server certificate to successfully complete installation of the IEE product. The certificate must be installed prior to Configuring the Bootstrap Configuration Tool.
For additional security, Itron strongly recommends that you enable Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption for all transactions within the IEE applications and for transactions between IEE and the database. Using SSL encryption protects data, including sensitive employee data that IEE passes between clients and servers. For more information, see "Enabling SSL Encryption" in the IEEConfiguration Guide.
