Servers and services
Use Service Management to add, configure, and monitor IEE servers and services.
Configure the number of servers on the network that are necessary to support the number of services and the amount of data those services are expected to process. Services are then assigned to the servers. The first time a service runs on a server, the server automatically registers with the IEE database.
Typically, a number of servers are configured and made available to IEE during initial IEE implementation. Then if the number of services or amount of data increases, configure more servers and reassign services to balance the load. For more information, see Reassigning services to servers to balance load.
After you add servers to IEE, create services and assign them to primary and secondary servers. The secondary server is optional and provides failover protection when the primary server becomes unavailable or cannot run a service unexpectedly. The secondary server automatically attempts to run the service.
Services are not created automatically when you install IEE. At least one Task Service and one Import Dispatcher Service must be created before you can use IEE to process tasks and import or export data.
Caution: Customers who intend to use the AMI Reading Import process must install and configure the Import Data Manager Service on its own server. The Import Data Manager Service does not share resources well with other services. For more information about dedicating a server for the Import Data Manager Service, see the Itron Enterprise Edition Installation Guide.
