Meter swap rules
The new meter configuration must match the existing service point configuration for the swap to be saved in the database. For example, if the new meter instance has four channels but the old meter's service point program has only three, you will have to link the new meter to a different service point program or update the service point program to accommodate the new channel.
Only compatible meters and service points can be linked together. Meters with 15-minute channels, for example, can only link to service points that have compatible 15-minute channels.
When a meter swap results in a change of interval, you must also update the service point configuration with the corresponding start time.
The UOMs of the meter channels and the service point channels must match. Although multiple meters can be linked into the same service point, each meter must have an available "socket" to plug into. This is similar to a power strip that plugs into multiple electrical components. The power strip accepts multiple connections but each connection must have the right number of prongs and be of the correct voltage. You can plug and unplug devices, but they must all be compatible.
The data routing program does not change during a meter swap. It is associated with the service point program.
During a meter swap, the data routing program that is associated with the service point instance does not change, provided that the service point program does not change. If the service point program changes, the default data routing program that is specified on the new service point program is used. You can change the data routing program at the service point instance level if necessary.
Similarly, if the data routing program uses a monitoring data program that is associated with a meter instance, the monitoring data program assigned to the meter instance does not change during a meter swap. If the meter program changes, the default monitoring data program, defined on the new meter program, is used. You can change the monitoring data program at the meter instance level if necessary.
