Register channel entity
A register channel is a single‑value quantity recorded by a meter. A single‑value quantity is not recorded on precise frequency, with neither predictable nor exact times between readings.
Register quantities usually represent total or summary values over a much longer period than interval values. Common registers are total kWh, peak kW, accumulating kWh readings, total kWh for various TOU blocks, and number of resets.
Each single‑value recorded quantity represents its own register on a meter. For example, a meter can have registers for accumulating kWh, peak kW, and number of resets. A meter can have 0 to n registers. Registers on a meter are commonly referenced by their UOM or register number.
Other register properties are analogous to properties of metered channels.
On many modern electronic meters, users can configure the number of registers and define which quantities to record. On other electronic meters, these values are fixed. On electromechanical meters, the registers are the dials, and the register quantities that they record are fixed.
