Creating a role

  1. On the Roles page, click Create.

  2. Type a name in Role Name.

  3. (Optional) Clear the User can access all available apps checkbox if you want to limit the role's access to specific applications. The User can access all available apps checkbox is selected by default.

  4. Select the appropriate function types for the user from the Function Type menu. More than one function type can be selected. The available function types are:

    • Administration.  Utility personnel that manages and configures Itron Analytics. By default, this function type has access to the Customer Portal and all menus of the Admin Portal except Platform Security and Customer Portal Security.

    • Security.  Utility personnel that configures roles, users, and user groups for Itron Analytics. By default, this function type has access to the Customer Portal and only the Platform Security and Customer Portal Security menus of the Admin Portal.

    • Operations.  Utility personnel that monitors file import processes for Itron Analytics. By default, this function type has access to the Import Monitoring dashboard in the Admin Portal.

    • End User.  Utility personnel that uses the Analytics Portal. By default, this function type has access to the Analytics Portal and Customer Portal.

  5. (Optional) If the User can access all available apps checkbox is cleared, select the appropriate applications for the user from the Apps menu. More than one application can be selected.

    Tip: The available apps are the Admin Portal, Customer Portal, Web Intelligence, and dashboards and tools in the Analytics Portal. However, this list is restricted by your Itron Analytics deployment.

  6. (Optional) If the User can access all available apps checkbox is cleared, select the appropriate denied functions for the user from the Denied Functions menu. More than one denied function can be selected. The available denied functions are:

    • Advanced Group Maintenance (Group Maintenance app).  This function allows the user to view personal groups created by any user, view groups in group types with sharing disabled, view the Group Types table, delete any non-system group, copy groups, and create groups in any non-system group type.

    • Remote Connect/Disconnect (Customer Service app).  This function allows the user to perform Remote Connect/Disconnects on Gas Gate Remote Disconnect (GGRD) gas meters.

    • Advanced Shared Search (End User).  This function allows the user to share, save, rename, and delete saved shared searches that are created by any user.

    Tip: When a user has multiple roles with access to an app, all roles must have the denied function to block access to the function.

  7. Click Update.
