Introduction

Grid Operations is a program for managing analytics related to the electric distribution system. Grid Operations is part of Grid Reliability in the Intelligent Edge Operating System (IEOS). Its use cases include:

  • DI Active Transformer Load Monitoring

    • Identifies transformer load issues such as high load, reverse load, poor power factor, or unbalance load based on data from Distributed Intelligence (DI) agents on end-point meters under the transformer

  • DI Active Transformer Voltage Monitoring

    • Identifies over and under voltage issues based on data from Distributed Intelligence (DI) agents on end-point meters under the transformer

  • EV Charging

    • Identifies service points whose electric usage pattern indicates high likelihood that an electric vehicle is being charged there

  • Exceptions / Connection data issues

    • Identifies service points not connected to a transformer, transformers with no connected service points, and transformers not connected to a feeder according to the data supplied by the utility

  • Exceptions / Service Type Mismatch

    • Identifies the electric service type based on phase data provided by a Power Quality data feed from AMM

  • Solar Service Points

    • Identifies service points whose recent received electric pattern indicates that there is a high likelihood that solar panels are installed on the premise

  • Transformer Loading (Loss of Life)

    • Identify transformers whose IEEE loss of life calculations indicate approaching end of life and/or rapid loss of life

  • Transformer Loss Balance

    • Identifies transformers with high calculated loss, comparing usage metered at the transformer to the sum of the usage metered at downstream meters

  • Transformer Phase Balancing

    • Identifies transformers with consistent, high differences in current levels across the three phases

  • Transformer Over/Under Voltage (End Pts)

    • Identifies transformers whose underlying service points are frequently over voltage or under voltage

  • Transformer Over/Under Voltage (Trans Mtr)

    • Identifies transformers whose transformer meter's phase voltage readings are frequently above or below the desired threshold relative to nominal (default +/-5%)

  • Over-/Under-Utilized CTs

    • Identifies transformer-rated service points whose interval readings indicate that the service's current transformer may be sized too large or too small for the usage at the service point

  • Power Factor Low at Peak

    • Identifies all service points that have a positive KVA correction value for the most recent complete month
