Alarm and event icons

The GDS module reports each alarm and associated event with its own distinctive icon, and a map shows where each instances has occurred.

Table 13 Alarm icons

Alarm icon

Description

High-flow alarm. Triggered when flow exceeds the rated meter capacity (250 CFH or 425 CFH) or when the capacity exceeds an optional user-defined threshold. This alarm automatically triggers a valve shutoff within 15 seconds of the initial alarm.
High-temperature alarm. Triggered when the internal temperature exceeds a factory defined value. This alarm automatically triggers a valve shutoff within 15 seconds of the initial alarm.
High-pressure alarm. Triggered when the internal pressure exceeds a maximum factory-defined value. This alarm automatically triggers a valve shutoff within 15 seconds of the initial alarm.
Low-pressure alarm. Triggered when the internal pressure exceeds a minimum factory-defined value. This alarm does not trigger an automatic valve shutoff.
Air-in-pipe alarm. Triggered upon detecting the presence of atmosphere by the ultrasonic measurement unit (UMU) within the Intelis meter. This alarm does not trigger an automatic valve shutoff.

Event icon

Description

High-flow event. Triggered by multiple high-flow alarms. May indicate a local or system-wide over-pressure event.
High-temperature event. Triggered by multiple high-temperature alarms. May indicate a developing wildfire event.
High-pressure event. Triggered by multiple high-pressure alarms. May indicate a local or system-wide over-pressure event.
Low-pressure event. Triggered by multiple low-pressure alarms. May indicate a developing local or system-wide outage event.
Air-in-pipe event. Triggered by multiple air-in-pipe alarms. May indicate a significant upstream safety event such as a backhoe through the reg station or similar incursion of air into the distribution system.

There are also two external events that are not detected, but can be manually inserted into GDS if they are reported to the utility.

Description

Gas leak reported. Operators can manually insert this event into the GDS when it is reported to the utility and it can be managed like any other event.
Gas explosion reported. Operators can manually insert this event into the GDS when it is reported to the utility or to emergency responders and it can be managed like any other event.
