Shares Tab
The Shares Tab is used to view and edit end-use and technology share data. The data values are annual and represent trends in end-use penetration in a sector. The share values can represent fuel shares, like the fraction of homes with electric heat pumps or with electric water heating. They can represent saturation levels, as in the fraction of homes that have stand alone freezers. They can also represent device densities, such as the number of televisions per home. Share and UEC values must be defined to provide a consistent energy intensity (e.g., KWh per home for residential). For the conventional end uses, Share in the base year multiplied by UEC in the base year will give the energy intensity (e.g., KWh/home) in the base year. For new technologies, the share values are used to define a saturation time path, but the units of measurement are not important. In this case, the time path is normalized by the equipment stock value in the technology base year.
The Shares Tab contains a standard list grid, with expansion controls [+] and [-] for each row. When a row is not expanded, there is one line for each set of share data, and that line shows the name of the set (End-Use Share ID), the Description field, and a set of Custom fields that can be used to sort and filter the list.
The toolbar on the Shares Tab allows the user to Add, Delete, and Duplicate share data sets. Additional controls are available to Filter the list or to change the column order. Rows can also be added or modified through the Import Wizard, using:
- Tools > Import > Long Term SAE End Use > Share List
When a row is expanded by hitting the [+] button for that row, an embedded list is shown that contains the data for the selected row. The list has a group of data rows for the each end-use and technology in the System, and there is one data row for each annual value in the database. The embedded list contains the following fields:
- EndUseKey. The name of the end use.
- Year. The year for the share value.
- Share. The share value for the end use and year.
The embedded list has standard functionality to drag a column into the Group-By bar and to then use the bar to filter the data, for example by selected end use or by selected year.
While the embedded data list can be used to edit data, this must be done one row at a time. Also, new rows can be added using the Add Contributor button on the toolbar. This will add a new row to the bottom of the list with the name of the end use that is selected and with the year after the last year of data for that end use. Although this functionality is available through the UI, it is typically easiest to modify or extend the data through the Import Wizard, using:
- Tools > Import > Long Term SAE End Use > Share Data
