Force Parent Discovery
The Force Parent Discovery command, like most other commands found in the Network Tools menu, is used to manage an ERT or meter's status within the network and its relationship to other ERTs and meters within the network.
Extended Field Communications (EFC) functions let a device that is successfully communicating with a network, called the parent, relay messages to and from another device (the child) that is unable to communicate directly with the network. Force Parent Discovery causes the ERT or meter to search for available parent network devices, and is used during installation. At this time, Field Tools supports limited EFC functions to the Intelis Gas Meter, OpenWay Riva 500G ERT Module, and Gen5 500G ERT Module.
You must have Program Endpoints permissions to perform this function.
Note: A successfully completed Force Parent Discovery command only initiates an ERT or meter searching for available parent network devices, it does not complete the processing of pairing parent with child devices.
Force Parent Discovery prompts you for inputs. Expand the device type you're working with for its input details. For descriptions of the results, see Result and success fields.
