60WP programming mode activation

Like ERTs that respond to a wake-up tone from an Itron radio or other mobile data collection device, Itron's 60WP ERT must be activated before it can be programmed, reset, unlocked, or checked. Activation "awakens" the ERT and puts it into programming mode.

Note: Field Tools provides the Program, Read, and Check commands for the 60WP, but does not provide the Reset or Unlock commands.

Instead of responding to a wake-up tone, a 60WP ERT requires exposure to a magnet for activation. When activated with a magnet, it goes into programming mode for 15 minutes. During this period, you must complete any programming tasks you wish to perform, using Field Tools and an Itron Radio.

Fifteen minutes is usually ample time to complete any programming procedure. However, if for some reason you fail to program the ERT during this period, you must re-activate it and repeat the procedure.

After you successfully program a 60WP ERT, it enters quiet mode (or normal mode, if quiet mode is disabled in the ERT's configuration).

In quiet mode the ERT neither transmits nor responds to additional programming commands. Quiet mode is used primarily by meter manufacturers and can be enabled or disabled in the ERT's configuration file. It remains in this mode unless a magnet is reapplied or it detects meter pulses, at which point it starts operating in normal mode.

In normal mode, the ERT records consumption pulses from the meter and operates according to the settings specified by your utility in the ERT's configuration file.
