FDM Work Order Support for Enhanced Security Capable Endpoints

When a dispatcher dispatches audit or service work orders involving installed enhanced security capable endpoints, the work may require FDM to perform security key exchanges and/or issue secure commands to the endpoint. If so, the FDM server automatically tries to retrieve the required security keys and secure commands from Itron Security Manager (ISM). The server normally sends these secure commands and key exchange commands to the FDM mobile application during synchronization.

However, in some situations, you may need to retrieve keys or commands to your handheld or laptop while in the field. This is possible using the Get Commands function, provided you can establish a connection to the server ( for more information about the Get Commands function, see Retrieving Secure Commands from the FDM Server).

You can successfully issue a secure command to a secured endpoint only once. After that you cannot perform the command’s function again without first downloading another secure command from the server. If you attempt to send a secure command to an endpoint after that command has already been successfully sent to that endpoint (for instance, by another FSR’s mobile device), the endpoint responds by sending the previously sent information, along with a message indicating that the command is a replay. In rare cases, the endpoint may erroneously indicate a replay.
