Set Comm Module Link Type

When both ACT RF and ACT PLC are enabled, this is the normal mode of the ACT module . It allows meters and grid devices to interact with each other while dynamically switching between RF and PLC to ensure the fastest and most reliable communications path.

In some environments, either Power Line Carrier (PLC) or Radio Frequency (RF) may be the best or only option. For these situations, use this window to enable one link type and disable the other one.

Some utility companies allow customers to opt-out of all network communications. Select Disable for both link types. When disabled, the only way to read the meter or make any changes to it is to log in via Wi-Fi using FDM Tools.

When you make the changes, FDM logs out of the device. Allow time for the device to complete its tasks (two minutes should be adequate) before logging in.

The Events window displays one or two of the following, depending on the selection(s) you made:

  • PLC Enabled
  • PLC Disabled
  • RF Enabled
  • RF Disabled
