System Settings Descriptions

Caution: Among the editable settings listed here, feel free to modify the Server Logging and Acceptance settings as desired. However, do not change any of the other settings after the initial installation and configuration of FDM without guidance from Itron technical support personnel.

Setting

Description

Formatting

Transfer Request Number Format

Indicates the next transfer request number to be assigned and determines the format for future numbers.

The value in this field can be any combination of letters and numbers. For example, if this field contains the value XFER 1, FDM assigns the number XFER 1 to the next transfer request and uses it as a basis for formatting future transfer request numbers.

When determining the next transfer request number, FDM locates the leftmost number in the value in this field, increments it, and replaces all numbers with the incremented value. For example, if the value in this field is 4 XFER 1, FDM assigns that value to the next transfer request and increments the value to 5 XFER 5—both numbers are incremented to the same number, 5.

Application General

Application Version

(For display only) Indicates the currently installed version of the FDM server software.

Database Server

(For display only) The location of the FDM database server, as specified during installation.

Application Server

(For display only) The location of the FDM application server, as specified during installation.

Product Modules

(For display only) The FDM modules that are included in your installation of the FDM server software.

Application Installation Path

(For display only) The path and name of the folder where the FDM server software is installed.

Mobile Synchronization

Backup Upload Files

Indicates whether to back up files on the FDM communication server that have been uploaded from the FDM mobile client.

  • true. File backup is enabled.
  • false. File backup is not enabled.

Synchronization Port

The FDM communication server TCP port used to communicate with FDM mobile clients.

Valid values: 1-9999; default = 8731.

Synchronization Inactivity Timeout (Seconds)

The number of seconds the FDM mobile client waits for any communication from the FDM communication server before it times out.

Valid values: 1-999; default = 300.

Maximum Synchronization Client Connections

The maximum number of FDM mobile clients that can be connected to the FDM communication server at the same time.

Valid values: 0-100; default = 0 (unlimited connections).

Synchronization Request Timeout (Seconds)

The number of seconds the FDM mobile client waits for a response to a request from the FDM communication server and vice-versa.

Valid values: 1-999; default = 180.

Backup Download Files

Indicates whether to backup files on the FDM communication server that have been downloaded to the FDM mobile client.

  • true. File backup is enabled.
  • false. File backup is not enabled.

Synchronization Split Size (KB)

The size in kilobytes of portions a file is split into when being communicated between the FDM communication server and mobile client.

Valid Values: 1-9999; default = 150.

Maximum Number of Mobile Clients

The maximum number of mobile clients to process at once.

Maximum Process Synchronization Sessions

The maximum number of simultaneous FDM communication server process database synchronization sessions. When the number of synchronization sessions reaches this value, the system blocks additional sessions until existing sessions complete. The FDM mobile client can still be connected.

Valid values: 0 (unlimited) -100; default = 4.

Number of Days of Upload/Download Backups to Retain

The number of days to retain upload/download backup files on the FDM communication server.

Valid values: 1-100, default = 10.

Acceptance

Use Interval Read Percentage

(Used only in ChoiceConnect Fixed Network 100 and OpenWay systems that collect interval meter reads.) Indicates whether the system uses the value in the Interval Read Percentage field in addition to the Number Of Days Read setting as a criterion for meter/endpoint installation acceptance validation.

  • true. The interval read percentage is used.
  • false. The interval read percentage is not used. In this case, the Number Of Days Read setting alone determines whether a meter meets the acceptance criteria.

Interval Read Percentage

(Used only in ChoiceConnect Fixed Network 100 and OpenWay systems that collect interval meter reads.) The percentage of successful interval reads required over the number of consecutive days specified in the Number of Days Read setting, as stipulated by the installation project’s meter/endpoint installation acceptance criteria.

This setting takes effect only if the Use Interval Read Percentage fields is set to true.

Percent of Installs Read

The percentage of the total number of a route’s or district’s newly installed meters that must be successfully read, as defined by the Number Of Days Read setting, before you can set a route’s acceptance status to Pending Acceptance.

This settings takes effect only if the Force Acceptance Criteria field is set to true.

Force Acceptance Criteria

Indicates whether the system enforces the meter/endpoint installation acceptance criteria configured in the Percent Of Installs Read, Number Of Days Read, Saturation Percent Threshold, and Interval Data Percentage fields.

  • true. Acceptance criteria are enforced.
  • false. Acceptance criteria are not enforced.

Number of Days Read

The number of consecutive days on which a newly installed meter must be successfully read through a ChoiceConnect Fixed Network 100 or OpenWay network, as stipulated by the installation project's meter/endpoint installation acceptance criteria.

Note: This setting pertains only to network meter readings. Readings received from Itron's Field Collection System (FCS), MV-RS, and Premierplus4 meter data collection systems are immediately accepted as successful readings.

Server Logging

Max number of Log File Backups

The maximum number of server log file backups the system stores at a time.

After the system has saved the maximum number of backups, with each new backup it deletes the oldest backup before saving the most recent one.

Once configured, this value should be left unchanged.

Log Verbosity

The level of detail included in the server log file.

The settings appear in the drop-down list in order of increasing detail, from Critical to Verbose (Off turns server logging off).

Log File Max Size (KB)

The maximum size of server log files, in kilobytes.

When the current log file reaches this size, the system saves it as the most recent backup file (for more information, see the explanation of the Max number of log file backups to keep field) and starts a new log file.

System Security

Manage User Store

Indicates whether FDM’s user store management feature is enabled.

  • true. User store management is enabled.
  • false. User store management is not enabled.

The user store management feature is typically enabled during installation (for more information, see the Field Deployment Manager Server Installation Guide).
