Firmware Download Files

Firmware download files are created by the manufacturer, and include the distribution file signature created with an Itron private key to support file source verification. The capabilities of the OpenWay Riva 500G, OpenWay Riva 500W ERT Module, and Gen5 500G ERT Module are determined by the firmware. When you import the firmware download file into FDM, FDM sends the file to the configured ISM server for verification that the file was created by Itron. ISM uses the Itron public key to verify that the file is from Itron, and returns the file to FDM as verified. The file contains a bundle of a ReleaseManifest file and a firmware image file. Once the firmware zip file is imported, the manifest file is extracted and read by FDM, FDM pulls the device model and firmware file version from the manifest file. The firmware file version is displayed in the File Version column. FDM compares the device model information pulled from the manifest file with the device information for the selected device in the user interface. If the information from the manifest file does not match the information from the user interface, a warning appears and the user is prompted to continue or cancel the upload.

It is optional to download and attach firmware download files to OpenWay Riva 500G Modules, OpenWay Riva 500W ERT Modules, and Gen5 500G ERT Modules.
