Creating and Downloading a Mobile Data File

  1. In the navigation pane, select Business Unit Properties.

  2. In the contents pane's command toolbar, click Download.
  3. In the Download Mobile Data File dialog box, specify the settings you want to include in the mobile data file.

    • From the Platform list, select the mobile device type for which you are creating the file.
    • If you have Download Mobile Data File permission in two or more business units, the dialog box lists them in the Business Units box. If applicable, select the business units for which you are creating the file.
    • Select Mobile Software if you want to include the FDM mobile application itself. Use this operation to update the mobile application to a later version.
    • Select Handheld OS if you want to include an operating system upgrade in the file. This option is available only for mobile data files intended for IMR handhelds.

  4. In the Encryption Password box, enter the password you want to use to encrypt the file, and confirm the password by entering it again in the Confirm box.

    The mobile device user must enter this password before installing the file's contents on his or her mobile device.

  5. In the File Save Location box, specify the location on your system where you want FDM to save the mobile data file.

    Note: You cannot change the file name, which is always either mobile.IMR.fdmcfg or mobile.PC.fdmcfg.

  6. Click OK.

    FDM create the file and returns you to the Business Unit Properties pane. After you can created and downloaded the file, manually copy it to the mobile devices you want to configure for use by disconnected users. On a handheld, Windows Mobile Device Center to copy the file to the \SD Card\Itron folder. On a PC, copy the file to the Windows desktop.
