Manage Configurations
This function is offered in two different menu locations for the convenience of users.
- When you access it under the Device Control Panel menu, the function is part of a group of configuration activities, sorted according to a logical flow of activities when logged into a device.
- When you access it outside of the Device Control Panel menu, you do not have to log onto a device to do the work.
The function behaves identically in the two different menu locations.
This window handles three related activities:
- Import Configurations places configuration files in the correct location on your computer so that you can configure devices.
- Remove Configurations deletes configuration files from your computer.
- Compare allows you to see the differences between two or more configuration files.
Importing Configuration Files
- If the configuration file (.xml file or zip file containing the .xml file) is on a network drive or other remote location, begin by copying it to your C drive.
- Select the Device Control Panel workflow.

Log onto the device and then select Configuration Management > Manage Configurations.
The window displays a separate row for each file that ends in the extension .xml and is located in the folder
C:\ProgramData\Itron\FDM\Workflows\OpenWay COSEM\Configurations\device\.In addition, the window displays a row for each .xml file inside a .zip file located in the folder
C:\ProgramData\Itron\FDM\Workflows\OpenWay COSEM\Configurations\device\Zips\. These rows include Version and Target information provided by the manifest in the zip file.Note: FDM creates these folders in your computer's directory structure the first time you open FDM.
- Click the Import Configurations button.

Browse your C Drive to locate either the .xml or the zip file containing the .xml file. Select the file and then click Open.
FDM returns to the Manage Configurations window and displays the selected file.
Removing Configuration Files
- Select the Device Control Panel work flow.
- Log onto the device and then select Configuration Management > Manage Configurations.
- Select the check box of the configuration file you want to delete.

Click the Remove Configurations button.
A dialog box asks you to affirm that you want to remove the selected file.

Click Yes to proceed.
The selected file is deleted from your computer. It is not moved to your computer's Recycle Bin or saved in any other location.
Comparing two or more Configuration Files with each other
- Select the Device Control Panel workflow.
- Log onto the device and then select Configuration Management > Manage Configurations.
The window displays a separate row for each file that ends in the extension .xml and is located in the folder
C:\ProgramData\Itron\FDM\Workflows\OpenWay COSEM\Configurations\device\.In addition, the window displays a row for each .xml file inside a .zip file located in the folder
C:\ProgramData\Itron\FDM\Workflows\OpenWay COSEM\Configurations\device\Zips\. - Select the check boxes of two or more files to compare with each other. Use the Shift and/or Control keys to select multiple files.
- Click the Compare button.
The window displays all configuration items of each of the files. Items that match are displayed in black, non-bold text. Items that differ are displayed in dark red bold text.
- Check Display Differences Only to remove all the items that match.
