Connecting a radio to a computer's USB port

FDM supports use of a 900 MHz Itron Mobile Radio that is connected to a computer as a USB device.

1. Use the USB cable provided with the radio to connect the radio to the laptop.

2. Turn on the radio.

3. If the radio's device driver software has not already been installed on the computer, Windows installs it automatically.

   Note:  If Windows does not automatically install the device driver, start the process manually by opening the Windows Device Manager and selecting Action > Scan for hardware changes.

4. Open the Windows Device Manager (select Computer > Manage > Device Manager) and expand Ports (COM & LPT).

5. Locate the USB Serial Port (COMxx) entry for the newly installed radio, where xx is the COM port number assigned to the radio.

   Make a note of the COM port number. You must use it when you configure FDM for use with the radio.

6. Close the Device Manager.
