Adding LFDIs to a HAN

A Long Form Device Identifier (LFDI) is a 40-character string that uniquely identifies devices that are able to communicate using the IEEE 2030.5 SmartEnergy protocol.

Gen5 Riva meters have a table for storing LFDIs. When you add an LFDI to this table, you connect the device to the HAN and allow the meter to request 2030.5 information from the device.

Tip: The LFDI is printed on a label affixed to the appliance.

  1. Provision the meter to the homeowner’s Wi-Fi Access Point. Check for status “Joined” in the Provision Status field.

  2. Click the Add LFDI button. Enter the 40-digit identifier in the LFDI field. You can enter it with or without the dashes.

  3. Click OK. The dialog box closes and you can see that the new code is included in the list of LFDIs.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for up to 16 devices.
