Generate RMA Token

A Return Material Authorization (RMA) is required for all products that need to be returned to the factory. The process is handled at Itron Access > Support Services > New Return Material Authorization Request Form.

You must unlock the security of meters that you are sending to Itron by creating RMA authorization credentials. RMA credentials are active for a much longer duration than normal signed authorization credentials.

Setting the Time Length of RMA Authorization Credentials

  1. In the OpenWay Operations Center, go to System Administration > System Settings > Security Features.
  2. Scroll to the Endpoint Access Using Digital Signature block.
  3. In the Signed Authorization for Specific Meter Access Duration field, choose a value up to 90 days. The RMA tokens created by FDM will expire after this length of time.

Generating RMA Tokens

  1. In FDM, go to the Generate RMA Token page.
  2. In the Directory field, browse to the directory where you want the RMA token to be saved.
  3. In the System Title field, enter the ID of the first device.
  4. Click Add to list it below the System Title field.
  5. Continue adding IDs to the list for as many devices as you want.

Tip: To save time, click Export to create an XML file of the entire list. Click Import next time you need to perform workflows on the same set of devices.

  6. Click Next or Finish.
  7. If requested, enter your Username and Password, and then click OK to log onto the OpenWay Operations Center.

The process logs into the Signed Authorization server to request an RMA key for each system title. The process saves one signed authorization key file that is valid for all devices in the list.

  8. Attach the signed authorization key file when you are completing the Return Materials Authorization Request Form in Itron Access.
