Connecting an External Scanner to an IMR

Note: This procedure describes how to connect an Intermec SF51 scanner to an IMR, as an example. The procedure is the same for connecting an SF61B series scanner to an IMR.

  1. Turn on the Intermec SF51 scanner by pressing the scan button.
  2. On the handheld screen, select Windows start menu key > Programs > Bluetooth.

  3. The handheld’s Bluetooth setup program starts.

    Tap Discover.

  4. The handheld searches for active Bluetooth devices within its range.

After a few moments, it lists the available devices.

Double-tap the scanner’s device name and select Pair as Scanner.

  5. The handheld prompts you for the scanner’s PIN.

Type 0000 (four zeroes) and tap OK.

  6. An icon appears beside the device, indicating that it has been paired with the handheld.

Double-tap the scanner’s device name again and select Properties.

  7. The handheld opens the Bluetooth Properties window, which shows the properties for the selected device.

The Status box should indicate that the device is paired and connected.

Make a note of the COM port number assigned to the device (COM18 in this example). You must ensure that the scanner’s communication port setting in FDM matches this value.

  8. Tap OK to close the Bluetooth Properties window.
  9. Tap OK again to exit the Bluetooth setup program.
