Reset Network Key
2.4GZ OpenWay Gas Modules and 2.4ZR OpenWay Range Extenders employ a special code, called a network security key, to protect against accidental or intentional access by unauthorized personnel. A utility company’s OpenWay modules and range extenders respond only to handhelds that have been configured with the same security key.
2.4GZs and 2.4ZRs are configured at the factory with a default network security key. When a module is first programmed, the FDM mobile application replaces the factory key with a unique network key, which Itron provides the utility. Thereafter, the module responds only to handhelds that recognize the network key.
Note: Although most 2.4GZs are shipped out of the factory with the default key, in some cases Itron custom-programs the modules at the factory with the customer settings, which includes the network key. Itron does not offer custom programming of 2.4ZRs, all of which are shipped with the default network key.
The Reset Network Key command lets you reset the network security key of a 2.4GZ or 2.4ZR to a different network key, if your utility has more than one, or to the factory default, if necessary for troubleshooting or if you must return the module to Itron for servicing. You must have Reset Network Security Keys permission to perform this function.
Use the following procedure to reset the network key.
An IMR or laptop is required for 2.4GZ OpenWay Gas Modules and 2.4ZR Range Extenders.
