Decode types

A decode type is a numeric value with a range of 0 to 255 (one byte) and is designed to serve two purposes.

  • To indicate data content encoding
  • To indicate how to perform conversion of readings to dial equivalents

All new nVanta endpoints should include the decode type field within their messages unless RF (radio frequency), communications, or battery constraints cause an exception. Each ERT and endpoint type has its own set of decode types.

Note: Legacy ERTs do not contain a decode byte in their message contents (SCM/IDM messages). Depending on the message, nVanta endpoints may contain a decode byte. All upstream nVanta systems should use the field to maintain consistency.
